Ordination

Ordination within the Dead Opossum Collective

Ordination is not a promotion. It is not a title of power, nor a declaration of authority. It is a recognition of one’s ability to remain still when movement is demanded.

What It Means to Be Ordained

To be ordained within the Dead Opossum Collective is to be acknowledged as a Practitioner of Stillness—one who has demonstrated restraint in the face of provocation, quiet in the presence of noise, the ability to withdraw without fear of being misunderstood.

An ordained individual does not lead by instruction. They lead by example. Often, this example is subtle enough to go unnoticed. This is considered ideal.

The Nature of Authority

Ordained members hold no dominion over others. They do not command. They do not correct. They do not intervene unless absolutely necessary.

Their role is to embody the Doctrine: To become unavailable to unnecessary conflict.

If guidance is offered, it is offered gently—and may be ignored without consequence.

The Path to Ordination

There is no application. There is no test. There is no formal approval process.

Ordination occurs when one realizes, “I no longer need to respond to everything.”

This realization may come gradually, or all at once. It may occur in silence. It often does.

Optional Rite of Recognition

For those who wish to mark the moment, a simple rite may be observed:

  1. Find a quiet space.
  2. Lie down, or become completely still.
  3. Remain unmoving for a short, intentional period.
  4. Acknowledge, internally or aloud: “I withdraw when needed. I remain when it matters.”
  5. Rise slowly, without announcement.

No witnesses are required. If there are witnesses, they should not comment.

Titles (If One Insists)

While titles are unnecessary, some have adopted them quietly:

  • Keeper of Stillness
  • Quiet Witness
  • Unmoving Hand
  • The Unavailable

These titles are not to be announced loudly, displayed prominently, or defended. They are mostly for personal amusement.

Revocation

Ordination cannot be revoked. However, it may be forgotten. If one finds themselves reacting to everything, engaging in every conflict, or exhausting themselves unnecessarily, they are encouraged to simply return. No apology is required.

Final Recognition

If you have read this and felt a sense of relief, a quiet understanding or the desire to disengage from something immediately then you may already be ordained. There is nothing further required of you.
